If you’ve ever seen an ant in your life, it has probably only ever been from one perspective.
But have you ever wondered what they would look like from their size?
You soon will be able to with Antopia – an immersive experience that blends art, science, and cutting-edge technology to create a ‘sensory spectacle’ for attendees.
Tickets are now on sale for an upcoming exhibition about ants at Melbourne Museum.
It will open on December 14 and run until March 10 2025.
Children under the age of three can enter free, while a child’s ticket costs $23.
Adults are $33, but Melbourne Museum members can enter for $19.
Museums Victoria chief executive Lynley Crosswell said it was a “vivid demonstration” of not only “harnessing” science but creating fun ways to highlight nature’s most interesting occurrences.
“This spectacular experience presents fascinating insights into the unseen collaboration, communication and simply wondrous beauty of the creatures that share our world—no matter how small,” she said.
Through interactive digital environments, Antopia embraces new ways of visualising the science of how ants operate.
This includes brightly coloured pathways and glowing light trails that explain the elaborate chemical communication used by ants as well as immersive animations and projections that respond to movement.
Attendees can also see what it is like to gather food and keep the colony safe in the supersized blades of grass in the exhibit.
