Wyndham Harbour is a step closer to opening, with international marine industry expert Karen Wyatt appointed to run the harbour’s marina.
Ms Wyatt most recently managed Marsden Cove Marina, a state-of-the-art boating and residential development at the mouth of Whangarei harbour in New Zealand.
She will oversee the new marina at Werribee South when stage one opens this summer.
The $440 million residential and marina development will be the only marina between Williamstown and Geelong and will eventually have 1000 berths and storage for up to 390 boats.
It will be the largest marina in Victoria and will open up a section of Port Phillip Bay never before accessible to the community and boating enthusiasts.
The marina will also become the new home of the Werribee South Coast Guard.
Stage one will provide 150 berths at the marina’s southern base as well as car-parking and bay trails that will link the development back to Werribee and two new beaches.
Ms Wyatt says she aims to evolve Wyndham Harbour into a thriving boating and tourism destination.
“I seized the opportunity to join the Wyndham Harbour team and become part of an offering that will truly enhance recreational opportunities for the boating and broader community in Melbourne’s west,” she said.
“This is just the beginning of the marina establishing itself as a significant boating destination for locals and visitors.”
