The new St Vincent’s Private Hospital in Werribee is on track to open its doors mid-way through next year.
A “topping out” ceremony on Monday morning saw the placing of the final beam atop the hospital’s structure.
The $95 million hospital, due for completion by July or August next year, will feature 112 overnight beds, six operating theatres, a catheter laboratory, consulting suites, pathology and radiology departments, four delivery suites and five cots in a special care nursery. It will also feature an 80-bed aged care facility at the rear of the site.
Up to 350 jobs will also be created in the process. It is located at Hoppers Lane in Werribee.
St Vincent’s Private Hospital regional chief executive Ian Grisold said the idea of the hospital first came about eight years ago, and he was excited that the project was now almost complete.
St Vincent’s group chief executive, Toby Hall, said the ceremony marked an exciting day for the hospital, which would serve the people of the Wyndham community.
“There has already been great demand and interest in this hospital,” he said.
“We hope that we are part of your community for the next 100 years.”
He thanked the donors who contributed to the project, who later signed the beam with their signatures.
Werribee MP Tim Pallas, attending his first topping out ceremony, said he was confident that the hospital would serve patrons well into the future.
“The new Werribee St Vincent’s Hospital will complement the existing health services in the area,” he said.
