New gin in town

Tarneit’s Suman Dahal is raising a glass to the future of Bright Night Gin.

He is a founder and partner of the new gin label, which is created in New Town, Tasmania by award-winning distiller Damian Mackey.

Mr Mackey ships the gin to Tarneit, from where Mr Dahal co-ordinates sales and marketing for the rest of Australia.

“I do everything outside of the bottle, he does everything inside of the bottle,” Mr Dahal said.

“I think we’re the first gin company in Wyndham.”

Sales of Bright Night Gin were launched online last week.

“Hopefully it will be one of the award-winning, top gins in Australia,” Mr Dahal said.

Mr Dahal said he also planned to approach Wyndham bars to stock the gin, which comes in recyclable packaging.

They have also partnered with a Truganina solar company, so that if a customer orders solar panels, they will receive a free bottle of gin and a cocktail booklet.

Mr Mackey said he spent around two years refining Bright Night Gin’s recipe, which went through around 40 iterations before being released to the market.

Mr Mackey said there were so many Tasmanian botanicals to experiment with that it gave him an “almost infinite scope to play with” before settling on the final 14 botanical ingredients of Bright Night Gin, including Tasmanian Mountain pepperberries, lemon myrtle, macadamia nuts and kunzea.
