Team Ellis Boxing is ready to go the distance in Laverton North after celebrating its grand opening on Sunday, June 1.
Owner and boxing promoter Jake Ellis was joined by family, friends and some celebrity talent to mark the occasion.
However, it’s not the first time an Ellis stepped into the ring in the west.
“Laverton North is where it all started for our family,” Mr Ellis said.
“Over 40 years ago, my uncle Keith Ellis and my dad Lester Ellis — who went on to become a five-time world boxing champion — first trained right here.
“Opening a Team Ellis Gym in this area isn’t just expansion…it’s coming home. The west has always had heart, and we wanted to build something the whole community could be proud of.”
They are also pretty proud of what they stand for– that boxing is for everyone.
“Whether you’re chasing fitness, confidence, or a competitive dream, our goal is to meet you where you’re at,” Mr Ellis said.
“We’re big on discipline, family values, and building a community where people feel seen and supported.
“Our trainers include professional fighters and champions, but it’s the culture that sets us apart.”

Boxing legends Lester Ellis, Barry Michael, footy stars past and present like Tayla Harris, Jack Crisp, Steven Baker, Travis Varcoe, Brodie Holland, Nelson Asofa-Solomona and on-screen stars like Ciarran Stott dropped in.
“It was incredible– the support from the community blew us away, it felt like a reunion, a celebration, and a fresh start all in one.”
