Wyndham Harbour Marina got the tick of approval from Werribee MP Tim Pallas at a ribbon-cutting ceremony last week.
Wyndham councillors, MPs and stakeholders flocked to the marina last Friday for the launch of stage one of the $440 million bayside development.
The project features the only marina between Williamstown and Geelong. It will eventually have 1000 berths and storage for up to 390 boats, and be the largest marina in Victoria, opening up parts of Port Phillip Bay never before accessible to swimmers and boating enthusiasts.
It will also be the new home of Werribee South Coast Guard.
Werribee MP Tim Pallas said Wyndham Harbour epitomised the unrealised potential of Melbourne’s west.
“The people of the west deserve great things, and this is a great thing indeed,” Mr Pallas said.
“Wyndham Harbour is another example of tapping into the potential that the west has.”
Wyndham Harbour shareholder Barry Brott said the development would be of enormous value to the region and enhance Wyndham’s reputation as a tourist destination.
“We believe we have a world-class marina here at Wyndham Harbour,” Mr Brott said.
The marina was first mooted by the state government in 1983. Developers secured the land in 2003.
