Four Wyndham schools are set to benefit from new, modern classrooms that are planned to open one term next year.
Laa Yulta, Lollypop Creek, Ngarri and Riverwalk Primary Schools will receive new classrooms as part of the state government’s 2025-26 Modular Classrooms Program.
The classrooms include several features to make it easier for students to focus.
These include double-glazed windows and improved insulation to reduce heat loss, special wall and ceiling linings to reduce internal noise reverberation, energy efficient design and external window shades.
For Ngarri Primary School in Manor Lakes, the new classrooms will mean reclaiming their library.
Prior to this upgrade, the school had not been able to use its library due to it needing to be used to accommodate classes.
“We have not had an accessible library since we opened. It has always needed to be used to accommodate a class,” principal Honey Stirling said.
“We have library books available to students in the reading nooks in the learning houses but nothing beats being able to go to the library, find a little nook and a great book and curl up for an enjoyable read.
Other communal spaces will be freed up, too.
“Presently, we have classes in shared and communal spaces such as the art room and the library,” Ms Stirling said.
“The extra classrooms will ensure students have their own classroom, their own space and can have their work on display.
“We currently have some specialist classes that transition from class to class. This space will allow specialist teachers to set up for lessons, store resources and reduce movement through the school.”
