Wyndham Vale is set to get its first ambulance station in a $500 million state government plan to slash ambulance response times.
The state government has today announced that the 24-hour station will have 14 full-time equivalent paramedics and a new ambulance vehicle.
Wyndham currently has ambulance stations in Werribee, Hoppers Crossing, Tarneit and Point Cook.
The announcement is part of a $500 state government spend over the next five years to meet demands across Melbourne’s outer suburbs and will employ 450 more paramedics, put more new ambulances on the road and build 15 new and upgraded stations across Victoria.
There will also be six new super ambulance response centres, housing more than 200 paramedics, based in the west, the outer north-west, the north, the north-east, outer east and south-east.
Exact locations for the response centres have yet to be determined.
Ambulance services minister Jill Hennessy said the new station would help cut ambulance response times.
“In a medical emergency every second saves lives. That’s why we’re ensuring people in Wyndham Vale get the right emergency care, quickly, when they need it,” Ms Hennessy said.
Werribee MP Tim Pallas added: “The new Wyndham Vale ambulance station will make a huge difference to this community’s hard working and dedicated paramedics and makes room for more paramedics on the road.”
More to come.
