Net gain for Wyndham tennis courts

Access to Wyndham tennis courts is a click away under a new online booking service being served up by Wyndham council.

Tennis players and casual users can book a court at Saltwater Tennis Centre in Point Cook, the Cambridge Tennis Club Courts at Hoppers Crossing or the Hoppers Crossing Tennis Club at Wooten Road Reserve in Tarneit under the Open Up Tennis project.

The initiative allows online court bookings for between 30 minutes and four hours, depending on availability.

Once a booking is made, a code is provided to allow access.

For those who have booked a court after dark, the lights will automatically come on once the code is activated.

The project follows a Tennis Victoria pilot program of the Open Up Tennis model. Between October 1, 2015, and May 31, 2017, 1337 bookings were made at Saltwater Tennis Centre, which took part in the pilot.

Wyndham mayor Peter Maynard said the initiative would make it easier for locals to enjoy tennis, especially after dark.

“Council’s Open Up Tennis project is a fairly simple idea, but quite clever,” Cr Maynard said.

Cr Maynard said that if successful, the initiative could be expanded to include more sports facilities.

Go to bookacourt.tennis.com.au and select a tennis court to make a booking.
