Point Cook College has confirmed that a student who found a needle in some berries on Monday is uninjured.
The Herald Sun reported that the student found a needle in some berries, that they brought from home.
The paper said the school had contacted police about the incident, and that the fruit had been taken to the Werribee police station.
Earlier today, the college principal Frank Vetere posted on the school’s official Facebook page that the student, who found the needle, was uninjured.
“Thankfully, the student has not been hurt and that we worked with the student’s family, the Department of Education and Victoria Police to deal and report the concern,” Mr Vetere’s post said.
The post said that Mr Vetere has briefed all college staff to be vigilant during snack and lunch eating times.
Star Weekly has contacted the Department of Education for further comment. A Victoria Police spokeswoman said they could not comment on individual incidents involving needles being found in fruit.
Health authorities have warned that anyone in possession of the Donnybrook, Berry Obsession and Berry Licious, Love Berry, Delightful Strawberries, and Oasis strawberries should dispose of them or return to the place of purchase.
Anyone who finds a contaminated item of fruit should contact their local police station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
