Wyndham Park Community Shed will be transformed into a repair shop this month as residents are encouraged to bring old bicycles and other household items that need repairing.
Community development officer James Dredge said Fix It Day was a monthly event that encouraged locals to bring unwanted or damaged bicycles to be donated or repaired.
Some bicycles are donated to newly arrived migrants and others are refurbished and sold.
“We have a large bicycle workshop at the shed, so if anybody has one they no longer need, we’ll repair it and give it away,” Mr Dredge said.
“Werribee is one of those places that isn’t overly accessible with public transport and people without a car can often find themselves isolated.”
Anybody looking to have their bicycle repaired is invited to bring it along for repair in exchange for a small donation.
Mr Dredge said other household items could also be repaired on Fix It Day.
“We can fix them up with woodwork tools or welding equipment,” he said. “Or people can bring their stuff in and fix it themselves. We’ll show them how to use the tools.”
Fix It Day will be at the Community Shed, at Kookaburra Avenue, Werribee from 10am-noon on February 27.
