Wyndham has been left out of the NBN’s latest plan to roll-out a brand new fibre to the curb (FTTC) technology.
The company last month released a list of suburbs set to be connected to the new technology, which delivers fibre to the telecom pit or footpath outside a house.
The fibre connects with a small distribution point unit that uses the existing copper line to deliver broadband.
Williamstown, Caroline Springs, Derrimut and Braybrook will all be connected.
NBN chief network engineering officer Peter Ryan said the FTTC technology could deliver the same speeds as fibre to the premises.
Federal Labor MP Joanne Ryan said the plan was not good news for Wyndham residents. She said the government was leaving residents without the technology needed to function in the modern world.
According to the National Broadband Network’s online roll-out map, only small sections of Wyndham have been connected to the network. It is available in patches of Wyndham Vale to the north of Bulban Road and in small sections of Werribee and Point Cook. The build has begun in other patches of Werribee, while large sections of Williams Landing have already been connected.
The NBN is almost non-existent in Hoppers Crossing and Tarneit. In Werribee South, the section around Wyndham Harbour has been connected.
