Can you tell me a bit about yourself?
I am a 24-year-old fashion styling student from Africa. I moved to Australia four years ago, my dad has been here longer than that. I do fashion and beauty, these are the two areas I want to go into, career-wise – it’s both a hobby and a career. This is what I want to do, and Australia has given me the opportunity to do that, which is wonderful.
I would like to have my own styling and beauty business, I feel they both go hand-in-hand. With make-up, I’m self-taught. I did a course, but I still use a lot of the skills I learned myself, just through watching YouTube and practicing, which got me to where I am now. I think it’s all about practice and I think it’s also being creative, it’s like art.
From a young age, I loved fashion, and I used to play with my mum’s make-up. I’m sure a lot of little girls do, but I knew that’s what I wanted to do with my life. When I left Africa, there wasn’t really a market for that kind of job, so when I came here, I was like, ‘I’m going to do it, at last’.
I’d like to inspire young girls to do what they love doing. Many people will question you, but if you love it, I think you should do it.
What do you like most about Point Cook?
The restaurants, there is a lot of diversity, so you get a lot of different foods. Where I came from, I knew about Indian food for example, but it wasn’t really accessible, it was mostly food like pizza and burgers.
Apart from the opportunity to study fashion styling, which is number one, I love the malls here – everything. There are lots of things, it’s hard to choose.
Where is the best place to take photos for Instagram, in Wyndham?
I’d say the gardens at Werribee Mansion, it’s beautiful.
And what would you change about the area, if you could?
Maybe the public transport, it needs to be more reliable.
