Murder mysteries, monks, mockingjay and manga were what attracted Wyndham readers over the first half of 2023.
Wyndham libraries have revealed their five most borrowed titles for the first five months of the year in adult fiction and non-fiction, youth fiction and youth graphic novels.
Delia Owen’s hit murder mystery, Where the Crawdad’s Sing – recently adapted into a Hollywood film – the most borrowed novel , ahead of The Dictionary of Lost Words by Pip Williams and The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides.
Think Like a Monk: Train Your Mind for Peace and Purpose Every Day by Jay Shetty, was the most popular adult non-fiction title, ahead of the Scott Pape’s latest Barefoot Investor title, Michelle Obama’s memoir, Becoming and Mark Manson’s perennial favorite, The Subtle Art of not Giving a F**k.
Fantasy writers,Suzanne Collins and Leigh Bardugo dominated the young adult list, with the Hunger Games author taking the top two spots, with Mockingjay and its predecessor, Catching Fire.
Bardugo’s Grishaverse books, Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows were 3rd and 4th.
Their dominance was nothing though compared to Japanese manga comics which accounted for the top five youth graphic novels.
Eiichirō Oda’s, One Piece, finished on top.
Scott Pape and Pip Williams were the only Australian authors on the lists.
