Bland and dreary walls in the municipality that are often marred with unintelligible graffiti have received a colourful face-lift.

A number of graffiti ‘hot spots’ have been decorated with murals and Wyndham council said the art pieces were produced in an effort to reduce the occurrence of graffiti within the municipality.

“Our placemaking program is designed to improve and foster creativity by local artists in key locations across our city through mural design,” Councillor Josh Gilligan said.

Council’s Graffiti Management Team worked with schools, community groups and professional artists to design and create the murals.

Some graffiti hot spot locations decorated include Presidents Park Skate Park, Powell Drive Shops, and the Ballan Road floodway.

“This is a small change as part of our bigger program to be more than just a city of housing by creating visual memories of key sites across Wyndham.”

Wyndham council is responsible for removing graffiti from council managed buildings parks and reserves, public toilets and fire hydrants.

Council’s graffiti team also works with students in primary and secondary schools throughout the municipality to provide education to students regarding the costs associated with cleaning defacement, the consequences and other alternatives for artistic expression.

To remove graffiti from private property, council offers residents and business owners free removal kits.
