Western metropolitan MP Bernie Finn has labelled one of Werribee South’s main roads “an absolute disgrace”.

Speaking in Parliament, Mr Finn said the condition of roads across the state “leaves a lot to be desired” including those in outer suburbs, such as Sunbury Road, Plumpton Road and Derrimut Road.

“These are major arterials now that are nothing much more than goat tracks – speaking of goat tracks, K Road in Werribee is an absolute disgrace,” Mr Finn said.

Mr Finn said that he and fellow MP Gordon Rich-Phillips visited K Road last year, to inspect the road’s surface.

“It was abysmal, it was shocking,” Mr Finn said,

“It is just staggering that such a road can be in such appalling condition.”

Mr Finn said tens of thousands of people used K Road to access Werribee Open Range Zoo, Werribee Park and Mansion, the National Equestrian Centre, Shadowfax Winery, the Victoria State Rose Garden and the Werribee Park Golf Club.

According to a Wyndham council report, the Werribee Park Tourism Precinct attracts more than 1 million visits every year.

Wyndham council’s director of city operations, Stephen Thorpe, said the council was “currently in the design phase for the reconstruction of K Road between Duncans Road and the entrance to the Werribee Open Range Zoo at Main Drive.”

“We are also exploring the possibility of extending these works further down K Road,” he said.

“As the State Government is currently upgrading the intersection of K Road and Duncans Road as part of the broader Duncans Road interchange upgrade, we plan to deliver the upgrade of K Road upon completion of the State’s works in order to reduce disruption and congestion.”
