Wyndham council has issued operational and construction tenders to redevelop a motocross track at Lawrie Emmins Reserve in Laverton North.
Wyndham’s sports development portfolio holder, Cr Peter Maynard said the $1.6 million project would include construction of a motocross track suited to beginners to intermediate level riders.
“Council has been working hard to reopen the motocross track at Lawrie Emmins Reserve since it closed,” Cr Maynard said.
“This exciting milestone sees us one step closer to achieving this goal.
“Local interest in motocross is definitely on the rise, and by redeveloping we’re bringing the sport closer to our community so they no longer have to travel to Broadmeadows or Bacchus Marsh to have a ride.”
The council established a Community Reference Group to provide advice on redeveloping the motocross track, which closed in 2010.
Earlier this year, the council released The Lawrie Emmins Reserve draft master plan, which included plans for a major cycling sports precinct, ovals, gardens, wetlands and recreational areas.
The $65 million proposal is expected to be rolled out in stages over the next 15 years subject to investment from council, state and federal governments.
