Werribee’s Rebecca Perkins has been named as a winner in the AusMumpreneur Awards.
The annual awards are presented by The Women’s Business School.
Ms Perkins said she was thrilled and surprised to be named the Service Business Award winner in this year’s awards, which were recently announced online.
In 2015, Ms Perkins founded My Special Child, an organisation which provides services, support, education and information to families of children with additional needs.
Ms Perkins, who has ADHD and Dyslexia, said her business was inspired by her eldest son Lachlan, who also has ADHD and is intellectually disabled.
Ms Perkins said she established My Special Child after becoming “frustrated with the lack of information and support available for parents with kids like Lachlan”.
“I decided if there wasn’t enough out [information] there then it was up to me to create it. And so began the My Special Child journey,” she said.
“I love being able to create something that provides so much help to so many other families like mine.
“It leaves me bursting with pride and this award shows that I am doing things right and gives me the motivation to strive for more.
“I won’t stop what I do until I have changed the world entirely for children and adults struggling with a disability.”
Ms Perkins she had met many inspiring women through the AusMumpreneur Awards.
“It’s… women in business like these that gives me the drive to want to strive for more on my business journey,” she said.
