Point Cook’s Cat McCarthy has been named a finalist in a nationwide competition which celebrates mothers in business.

Ms McCarthy, of David McCarthy Plumbing, has been named as a finalist in the annual AusMumpreneur Awards, in the category of Service Business.

The AusMumpreneur Awards, presented by The Women’s Business School, recognise mothers in areas such as business excellence, product development and customer service.

David McCarthy Plumbing, which is based in Point Cook and Laverton North, is run by Ms McCarthy and her husband David.

Ms McCarthy, who has a background in community and sport management, is the business’ people development manager.

Ms McCarthy said she was delighted to be named a finalist in the AusMumpreneur Awards.

She said that when she and her husband started their business five years ago, it meant she no longer had to travel into the city from Point Cook on a daily basis.

“I loved my career, however I didn’t enjoy the hour and a half commute into the city each day,” she said.

“Starting our own business gave me the outlet to continue utilising my skills in people development, business management and marketing, without having to give up my time with my children or leave my community.”

In its first five years of operation, David McCarthy Plumbing has won various awards including the Wyndham council 2016 New and Emerging Business Award.

Last year, it won the National MyBusiness Trades Business of the Year Award.

The winners of the 2020 AusMumpreneur Awards will be announced at an online event later this month.
