A Point Cook BMX rider is urging other females to jump on a bike and give the sport a go.

Mandie Morgan, of the Wyndham Warriors BMX club started riding as a child, but stopped in her later years.

“In 2011 my brother joked that he’d build me a bike. I said yes, and now I’m hooked,” she said.

“I’m a bit of an adrenaline junkie; I love going fast and pushing the limits, but I also love that it’s a family sport.

“When I’m racing, my three-year-old daughter also races with me, and we both go home with a trophy.”

Morgan will be hosting the club’s free come-and-try sessions for females of all ages next month.

“We want more females involved in the sport of BMX, whether it be through riding or as a volunteer.

“I’m very passionate about females being a part of the sport … of any sport,” she said. “Come along and give it a go.

“Don’t ever think because of your sex that you can’t do something. Just because men do it, it doesn’t mean women can’t.”

Morgan trains two to three times a week, and races fortnightly. She said there are many health and fitness benefits to riding, and women can be as involved as they want.

The free come-and-try sessions will be run on October 9 and October 23, from 9am until 10am, at Wyndham Warriors BMX track, 115 Derrimut Road, Hoppers Crossing.
