Wyndham council has received funding from the federal government to help reach its goal to transition its fleet to zero emission vehicles by 2035.
Coming from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency’s Driving the Nation Fund (ARENA), Wyndham was one of three local governments selected to share in $2.2 million of funding.
The grant will support the installation of 13 electric vehicle (EV) chargers that will be located at a council depot in Hoppers Crossing.
Mayor Mia Shaw said the transition from internal combustion engines to electric vehicles will play an important part in the council’s aim to further reduce its carbon emissions.
“The installation of the additional EV chargers is a key step so that we will have the infrastructure in place to support the growth of our electric vehicle fleet.”
“At present our fleet makes up a large portion of our greenhouse gas emissions.”
The current EV charging sites in Wyndham are located at the Dianella Community Centre and Bembit Bag-rook Community Centre in Tarneit, Truganina Community Centre, Alcock Road Reserve Pavilion and Koomail Tardy Community Centre in Truganina, Hunter Werribee Public Carpark, Wyndham Civic Centre and Lollypop Creek Community Centre in Werribee, and Wunggurrwil Dhurrung Community Centre in Wyndham Vale.
“Installing EV chargers means we’re driving towards a cleaner and greener future for our whole community,” Cr Shaw said.
