Unexpected, elegant and heartwarming are the words Alaine Beek would use to describe her theatre production The Dress.
Following a successful launch season, Ms Beek, a writer and actress, included new dates for November to meet the demand.
The production is centred around the Melbourne fashion world in the late 19th century.
“[It] was a fascinating time, as Australian women began to reject the heavy restrictions unsuitable to Australia’s much hotter wilder climate,” Ms Beek said.
“I wanted to capture that time in this play so after much research, we drilled down to two engaging characters -a widow and her dressmaker.
“Harry Quinert’s design and creation of costuming is breathtaking, and his in-depth knowledge of historical fashion and social norms was vital to the creation of this work.”
Ms Beek said the performance showed how the fashion world was radically changing, and the “spectacular glamour” of a beautifully designed ballgown.
“I can’t wait to present this to audiences,” she said.
Kevin Hopkins shares the stage, produced by not for profit Essence Theatre, also known for The Scrunch Test, What Was That?, Shepherd Kings, Down to Earth, Testing Nothing, A Good Coffee, and their season of Point of No Return.
The performance has a 90 minute running time, and can be enjoyed on November 24, 25, 26 Werribee Mansion.
