A man who was missing in Port Phillip Bay after taking his jet boat out on Sunday morning has been found after spending an extremely cold night on the water.
Police stepped up the search for the Wyndham Vale man, 58, who took off on his “sea-doo” jet boat from the Werribee South boat ramp about 10am on Sunday.
He was meant to return on Sunday evening but didn’t make it back.
Water police and coast guard vessels searched overnight for the man but were unable to find him.
Police say he is back with his family, and is safe and well.
It’s believed the boat had became stuck on a mud bank in low visibility.
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Rod Dickson said it would have been very cold in the bay overnight.
“Avalon got to minus 0.5 degrees overnight so it wouldn’t have been too pleasant out there.”
It comes after Melburnians arose on Sunday morning to find thick fog engulfing much of the city with suburbs as far as Viewbank in the north-east seeing barely any sunshine at all.
The CBD reached a maximum of only 9.6 degrees on Sunday – the lowest June temperature since 1985.
