Are you a newly arrived migrant who has established a successful business in Wyndham?

It could be your time to shine.

Nominations for Wyndham council’s first-ever multicultural entrepreneur awards are now being accepted.

To be eligible, nominees need to have arrived in Australia in the past decade with English being their second language.

The awards will be given in ‘established’ and ‘emerging’ categories, with gongs for males and females being presented in each.

The awards will be presented at a dinner at the Wyndham Civic Centre on July 8, with winners receiving trophies and tickets to both the Wyndham Business Awards and two-hour business planning consultations.

The council’s cultural diversity portfolio-holder, Gautam Gupta, said judges would look at entrepreneurs’ journeys, including why they started their businesses, obstacles they’ve overcome and risks they’ve taken, and the nominees’ creativity, innovation, vision, self-development and community focus.

“We hope this will encourage more migrants to start their own businesses and contribute to our local economy,” Cr Gupta said.

Nominations close on Sunday, May 29. Click here for more information and nomination forms.
