Michele still in step at ninety

Well known Hoppers Crossing man Michele Casabene has celebrated a milestone month, turning 90 and still able to dance a jig.

The founder of Casabene Drainage gathered together 180 of his family and friends, including his four children and seven grandchildren, at the Italian Social Club earlier this month.

In deference to his late wife, Graziella, Mr Casabene asked all partygoers to donate to Alzheimer’s Australia in lieu of gifts, and they raised more than $10,000 in the process.

Mr Casabene is well-known in the Wyndham community for starting up Casabene Drainage in 1962, which has since evolved into the Casabene Group of Companies.

He handed the business over to his sons in 1992 to become his wife’s full-time carer.

Daughter Rosanna Celestre said her father still went out dancing every Saturday night, and is also a keen golfer and billiards player.

“He’s been an amazing husband, father, grandfather,” she said.
