Melbourne Vixens head to Hoppers Crossing

The Melbourne Vixens roadshow will visit the Hoppers Crossing Netball Association this Saturday, February 19 ahead of round one of the 2022 Super Netball Season.

As part of the roadshow, players Emily Mannis and Rahni Samason will attend the event.

The Vixens are also recognising local “fearless legends” including Hoppers Crossing Netball Association member Irene Maycock.

Dubbed “the heart and soul of the Hoppers Crossing Netball Association”, Ms Maycock has been involved in the sport for more than 30 years and is an umpire coordinator, canteen organiser and cooks a barbecue every Saturday morning.

Unfortunately, Ms Maycock lost her husband not long before Wyndham Netball Association and Hoppers Crossing Netball Association had their annual five-week “return to netball” competition in 2021.

Despite the hardship, Ms Maycock, her two children, Amanda and Emma, and her granddaughter, Kirrah, came to the netball court to showcase their family’s strength and courage.

As a result of Ms Maycock’s devotion to the Hoppers Crossing Netball Association, a court is named after her.

The Hoppers Crossing Roadshow will be held Saturday, February 19 from 9.30am–11.30am at Mossfield Reserve, Mossfield Drive, Hoppers Crossing, featuring giveaways, player interviews, live music, face painting and appearances from Foxy the mascot.

All ticketholders over the age of 18 must show proof of vaccination upon entry.

Face masks must be worn indoors.
