Massive delays with Princes Freeway closed

Melbourne-bound lanes of the Princes Freeway are closed between the Princes Highway, Werribee and Duncans Road due to collision.

Emergency services are diverting traffic into the Werribee and commuters are being told to allow for extra time with significant delays on the freeway.

The VicTraffic website said there had been a truck rollover, while its social media posts highlighted a number of incidents on the road earlier on Wednesday morning.

A Department of Transport and Planning spokesperson said crews have been able to reopen one lane for traffic while we investigate the cause and further work needed to reopen all lanes.

“We will provide more information when it becomes available,” they said.

“All lanes will re-open when investigations and repairs are complete and it is safe to do so.

Victoria Police said they are currently assisting with traffic management issues, on the Princess Freeway inbound in Werribee, following multiple collisions early this morning.

“While the collisions have been cleared, due to the condition of the road, diversions remain in place between Princes Highway, Werribee Road and Duncans Road,” the police spokesperson said.

“It is understood issues with the road contributed to the collisions, which occurred about 4.20am.

“No one was injured.”
