Manor Lakes closes in on suburb status

Manor Lakes is one step closer to becoming a suburb in its own right.

Wyndham council advocacy director Bill Forrest confirmed that the name Manor Lakes was gazetted in the Victorian Government Gazette last week.

He said the next step was for the Office of Geographic Names to register the locality and inform emergency services.

“Once council is advised, we will notify property owners and residents and landowners when Manor Lakes is officially their new address,” he said.

The new suburb’s boundary would run from the junction of the north-east corner of Quandong and along Ballan Road in a south-easterly direction, he said. It would then run south, bisecting Hindmarsh Drive, and continue west along Greens Road then Argoona Road to the south-east corner of the Quandong boundary.

Manor Lakes Residents Association (MLRA) secretary Delphi Anderson said she was thrilled to hear the Wyndham Vale estate would soon officially become a suburb in its own right.

“It’s fantastic,” she said. “It’s a project the MLRA has been working on for some years. Lots of members have worked tirelessly on this.

“Without the community’s support in signing petitions and all that, it wouldn’t have gained traction.”

The move comes four months after Sanctuary Lakes residents presented a 2400-signature petition to the state government and Wyndham council calling on them to proclaim their area a suburb.
