New Manor Lakes Neighbourhood Watch group

Manor Lakes residents have banded together to form their own Neighbourhood Watch group.

Organiser Gregg Smith, who has lived in Manor Lakes for two years, said the new group would share tips on community safety and awareness, as well as information from police and other agencies, to help the community be informed and proactive in preventing crimes, including burglaries.

“It’s all about how we can protect ourselves against [crime],” Mr Smith said. “The more people are aware of what’s going on in their community, the safer it gets.

“If your neighbour is away, you can watch their house for them. Or if there are cars parked in the street that aren’t normally there, or you spot suspicious activity, we become the eyes and ears of the community, and it helps police do their job.

“Some of the Facebook groups about Manor Lakes now are fantastic. If something happens, within minutes it’s all online. It makes people feel safe in their area knowing that everyone’s out there looking.”

Mr Smith said the Manor Lakes group had received a great response at its first meeting. The group will elect its executive committee at the Wyndham Vale Community Centre on August 6 from 7pm.
