A man has pleaded guilty to murdering a Victorian mother in her home.

Sigaragh Baea, 21, of Lara, faced the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday where he entered a plea of guilty to the charge of murdering Prasad Somawansa, 48, in February.

Mrs Somawansa’s husband and son – who had left the house minutes before she was killed – were in court for the plea.

At an earlier hearing Mrs Somawansa’s son, Wishhasad, revealed he and Mr Baea had been friends at primary school and had not seen each other for a decade until they ran into each other late last year.

Mr Baea was invited to the Somawansas’ home for dinner in January and then turned up unexpectedly on the night Mrs Somawansa died, not long before his former friend was called out to a job with the State Emergency Service.

Mr Somawansa allegedly dropped Mr Baea at Werribee Plaza, but less than two hours later Mrs Somawansa was dead.

Her husband, Priyantha, was in Brisbane at the time for work.
