A gunman is on the run after reportedly shooting a man in the face in Point Cook overnight.

The shooting occurred at a house on Spraypoint Drive in Sanctuary Lakes just before 11pm on Thursday.

Police have been told that the victim, a 53-year-old Point Cook man, was shot by an unknown person who fled the scene before police arrived.

One resident, who went to the aid of the victim, said the man had been”shot in the face.”

“Yelling came on and then a gunshot…there were a few people involved,” the man, who did not want to be identified, told radio station 3AW.

He said the shooting was “over within about minute and 30 seconds” with another neighbour adding there had been issues with the house the victim lived at in the past.

“They have a lot of parties,” she said.

A section of the street has been cordoned off and a crime scene has been set up around the house.

The victim was taken to hospital in a critical condition with serious head injuries, Ambulance Victoria said.
