Police have charged a homeless man with 10 commercial burglaries after a series of break-ins at Wyndham businesses.
Detectives from the Wyndham crime investigation unit charged a 38-year-old man of no fixed address last week with the offences, which occurred at locations including Korean Grill House in Point Cook, an Altona Meadows fast food outlet and a Victoria University café.
Money, cash register drawers and a tip jar were among the items allegedly stolen during the break-ins.
The man was also charged with two attempted commercial burglaries and the theft of a motor car.
In the Sunshine Magistrates Court last Thursday the man was remanded in custody until the case returned to court on June 2.
Korean Grill House chef Arlan Van Rooyen said the restaurant was broken into on May 14.
Mr Van Rooyen said that as a result, the business was forced to cancel all of its Mother’s Day bookings.
But Mr Van Rooyen said Stockland, which manages Point Cook Town Centre, had offered to give gift vouchers to all the mothers who had missed out.
“We will contact all the mums to offer them a voucher – there were about 40 mothers,” he said.
