Man arrested in Hoppers Crossing

Police have arrested a man in Hoppers Crossing, after he allegedly engaged in dangerous driving while trying to avoid capture.

Around 11.30am, members of the Westgate Highway Patrol saw a “suspicious looking car” drive past them.

After checking the car’s registration, the officers found out the vehicle’s plates had allegedly been stolen.

Police tried to intercept the car, but called off their attempts due to alleged dangerous driving by the motorist they were pursuing.

After mechanical issues forced the driver to abandon his vehicle, he allegedly fled the scene on foot.

Police arrested the man shortly afterwards, around 1km from his defunct car.

The Lara man, 29, was taken into custody on charges including theft of number plates, evading police,
driving in a dangerous manner, driving while disqualified and having an unregistered motor vehicle
