Parks Victoria are advising Wyndham residents of maintenance dredging taking place at the Werribee South Jetty.

Dredging refers to the removal of sand built up over time at the entrance of boating access channels, the process is undertaken to maintain safe access to port facilities.

Parks Victoria says it regularly monitors water depths at Werribee River to determine when dredging is required.

As the sand usually contains decaying aquatic plant material, including seaweed, dredged sand can often be grey in appearance and mild in odour.

Parks Victoria says these conditions quickly change once sand has been exposed to air, sunlight and tidal process, and usually within a week.

Unless otherwise marked, the jetty will still be open for use.
