Point Cook residents are being urged to report mail theft to the police after opened postal items were found dumped in Alamanda estate.
Neighbourhood Watch of Point Cook Central issued a warning earlier this month to alert households.
The group said that opened mail had been found dumped in Alamanda Boulevard, Reef Walk and Royal Circuit.
It said people had been seen “checking out” post boxes in the Waterhaven Boulevard area during the early morning hours.
Similar activity has been reported in the Innisfail estate.
Neighbourhood Watch advised residents to lock their mailboxes to help prevent theft.
Wyndham Police Inspector Martin Allison said reports of dumped mail and postal theft were “not uncommon” in Wyndham.
He encouraged residents to contact police to report incidents of mail theft.
In July last year, Wyndham police found 267 stolen letters and four credit cards in the back of a car they had intercepted. The mail was addressed to properties in Werribee, Hoppers Crossing and Point Cook.
A 28-year-old Werribee man was charged with theft, handling stolen goods and possessing drugs.
In August last year, police arrested another man and four women after executing a warrant at a Werribee house.
Investigators said they found a large amount of mail, believed to have been stolen from letterboxes in the area, at the address.
