Lukas steps up for long walk

WALK ON: Wyndham Vale resident Lukas White is stepping up to raise funds for a worthwhile cause.

On May 25, Mr White will take part in a 60-kilometre fundraising walk, the Wild Women On Top Melbourne Coastrek, to support The Fred Hollows Foundation.

Along with his mother, Jani, cousin Tara and his mother’s friend, Helen, Mr White will walk from Cape Schanck to Point Nepean.

Mr White said their team name – How Far Again? – was generated by their collective sense of humour.

He said that he was looking forward to the physical challenge and fun of participating in the walk.

“For myself, up until a couple of years ago, I never went to gym and trained or did cardio – I sat at my computer for work all day, so this is a big milestone for me,” he said.

Mr White said his two daughters, aged five and eight, were a big part of his inspiration in entering the walk.

“The walk is also supporting Fred Hollows, which is fantastic, because as a parent, it’s ridiculous for me to imagine that one of them could be needlessly blind but for the cost of one family meal at McDonald’s,” he said.

“In some countries, it costs $25 for cataract treatment to restore someone’s sight.”

Mr White said he hoped to raise $2000 for the Fred Hollows Foundation. He has raised more than $1000 so far.
