Lotto luck in Tarneit

A lucky customer of Wyndham Village Lotto & News in Tarneit has scored $482,706 after a division one TattsLotto win last month.

Wyndham Village Lotto & News owner Mahesh Thakur said the customer purchased a ticket in TattsLotto draw number 4157, which was held on Saturday, May 22.

Altogether, there were 15 division one winning entries across the nation, including five in Melbourne.

The Tarneit player who received the windfall, through a System 7 entry, has chosen to remain anonymous.

Mr Thakur said he could not be happier for the customer, who has since thanked him for the ticket.

Mr Thakur and his wife Mala have run Wyndham Village Lotto & News for about seven years.

In this time, their store has recorded about 15 division one TattsLotto wins.

“I’m not lucky – the community is lucky,” Mr Thakur said.

“They keep coming back, I just do my job.”

He and Mrs Thakur also run Sweet Magic, an Indian confectionery store, which is located alongside their newsagency.

Both Sweet Magic and the newsagency are acting as a drop-off point for residents wanting to donate items to Uniting Wyndham’s Winter Blanket Appeal, which is collecting blankets and doonas for people doing it tough this winter.

“The community is wonderful, they supported me through COVID so I want to support them,” Mr Thakur said.

Mr Thakur said Sweet Magic, which stocks around 60 varieties of Indian sweets delivered fresh by chef Ravi Meesala every day, was popular with Victoria’s Indian community.

“People come in all the way from Bendigo and Melton,” he said.
