LIT replaces cheese fest

An immersive showcase named LIT will be held in Werribee later this year, to replace an annual cheese festival on the Wyndham events calendar.

Wyndham council’s LIT spectacular will see Wyndham Park become “a glowing wonderland” each night from 8pm – 11pm, between February 25 and March 6.

LIT will be staged in place of the Fromage a Trois cheese festival, which was previously held yearly at Werribee Park, before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Council documents from last month (December) stated that LIT would replace the cheese festival in 2022 “as cheese mongers and businesses have said they are not prepared to be involved (in Fromage A Trois)”.

The cheese festival previously attracted thousands of visitors to Wyndham, each time it was held.

However, the municipality’s mayor Peter Maynard said that the LIT program “would provide a magical experience for visitors of all ages”.

“Wyndham Park will be transformed each night with trees drenched in colour, glowing native creatures and other illuminated works that celebrate the natural beauty of this parkland setting,” Councillor Maynard said.

“We’re thrilled that visitors will also be among the first to experience a new work – Lost Dogs’ Disco, with its Victorian premiere from Melbourne-based art and technology studio ENESS.”

The colourful inflatable dogs, some of which stand up to 5.5 metres tall, will light up and greet people with a chorus of growls, barks and howls.

Wyndham’s creative city portfolio holder, Cr Marcel Mahfoud encouraged residents to experience the wonder of LIT during its 10-night season.

“Visitors will be able to explore Lantasia by The Lanternist – a glowing trail of animal sculptures, leave a lasting impression on the GloWall and be part of the art with the Bridge of Dreams, where you can share your dreams via QR code and see them projected onto the bridge over the course of the evening,” Cr Mahfoud said

No bookings will be required to attend LIT, which will be held at Wyndham Park (entry via Wedge Street Piazza, Werribee).
