Providing opportunities in performing arts is the goal of Wyndham council’s inaugural one-act play festival, WOMPA.

Held at the Wyndham Cultural Centre in Werribee on Sunday May 7th, WOMPA will feature nine one-act plays of less than 10 minutes.

Festival facilitator, Alaine Beek, said the format provides an ideal entry point.

“A one-act festival is good way of for people interested in performing arts to get involved without being too overwhelming,” she said.

Selected from entries from within Wyndham and elsewhere, the nine plays are all based on the theme of life in the western suburbs.

Beek said the range of stories was impressive.

“There’s everything from light comedies to quite dark contemplative and quite out there stories and some quite poignant. It’s a wonderful mix.”

Prizes such as Best Written, Best Production and Most Potential will be awarded by a judging panel, while a People’s Choice award will be voted on by the audience.
