Library lands at the RAAF

The Wyndham Pop-up Library bus may not have wings but it made a smooth landing at RAAF Point Cook recently.

On Tuesday, September 30, the mobile library – which usually is deployed to community centres and other locations across the municipality – made the visit to Australia’s oldest active airbase.

First order of the day was Rhyme Time for local kids under five and their families.

Fittingly, and at the RAAF’s recommendation, the children eagerly listened to a fable known as The Adventures of William Brambleberry Aviator Mouse.

Surrounded by some of the most iconic aircrafts in Australian aviation history, the kids learned of a small mouse with the very big dream of becoming a spitfire pilot.

Star Weekly will not spoil the plot for anyone who may want to read it, but we can reveal it was a tale of perseverance that seemed to resonate across the room.

When the show finished, many curious families wandered around the old hanger and read about their country’s history.

The Pop-Up Library Van is rostered to visit different locations, four days a week during business hours with two staff members on board. The hours and locations change each term.

The van visits a range of sites and locations across Wyndham and addresses service gaps in the community, also providing free wifi.

Becoming a member of the library or borrowing books are completely free, so residents of all ages are encouraged to take advantage of the mobile library when it is near them.
