Wyndham roads could undergo almost $400 million in upgrades if the Liberal Party emerges successful at the November state election.

Liberal leader Matt Guy announced a series of pledges on Saturday,October 29, including, $64 million to complete Sayers Road duplication between Morris Road and Davis Road and $82 million to duplicate Leakes Road between Derrimut Road and Davis Road.

Tarneit Liberal candidate Preet Singh said he believed the news would be welcomed by motorists.

“All these developments are coming in and the roads haven’t kept up with the demands of the area,” Mr Singh said.

“It’s chock-a-block, three lanes become one lane [on Leakes Road], every single day there’s a traffic jam and people are made to spend extra time on the road.

“This will certainly make a difference in people’s road, this is what the people were asking for a long time.”

Mr Guy also promised $146 million to duplicate Point Cook Road between Central Avenue and Sneydes Road.

Labor candidate for Point Cook Mat Hilakari announced on Tuesday, October 25, the state government had also pledged to invest $79 million to replace the current configuration on Point Cook Road, with traffic lights to ease congestion and improve the safety of drivers.

“We’re delivering a safer, better road for people in Point Cook, Altona Meadows and Seabrook with our promise to upgrade Point Cook Road,” he said.

The commitment would also allow for the widening of Central Avenue from Point Cook Road to Skehan Boulevard from two to four lanes, with the project expected to be completed in 2025.

The funding will also include the $87 million to duplicate Ballan Road between Armstrong Road and Bolton Road previously reported by Star Weekly.
