Police were out in force last week during a highly visible weapons blitz around Werribee train station.
Transit safety division police used walk-through metal detectors and hand- held wands to conduct random weapons searches in and around the station on Thursday as part of Operation Omni.
A 42-year-old Werribee man was remanded in custody after being found carrying three knives.
He was charged with weapons offences, and police said outstanding warrants had been served against him.
Police on hand to tackle antisocial behaviour also issued a caution to one commuter for possessing cannabis.
The transit safety division’s Inspector James Duggan said the search was about removing weapons from the public transport system and wider community.
“This is a reassurance for the travellers, more than anything, and to detect what offences are taking place [in that area],” he said.
“We’re here to make it the safest- possible public transport system.
“We know most people who use the public transport system do so responsibly. But a small number still want to behave in an antisocial way or carry weapons, and it’s these people we’ll be targeting.”
Inspector Duggan said the Werribee station had been a crime hotspot in the past but hadn’t had particular problems of late.
