Portable kindergarten buildings have been installed in Tarneit and Wyndham Vale in a bid to deal with rapid population growth.
Early Childhood Education Minister Jenny Mikakos opened the building at Tarneit North Kindergarten last week.
It will provide an additional 231 kindergarten places in Wyndham this year.
A second portable kindergarten has been opened near the Wyndham Vale Primary School, offering another 66 kindergarten places.
The government has also provided Hume, in the northern suburbs, with portable kindergartens as part of a $4.25 million project funded through the Growth Areas Infrastructure Contribution (GAIC).
“Tarneit’s population is booming and we are getting on with the job of creating more local kinder places to meet the needs of growing communities in Melbourne’s west,” Ms Mikakos said.
Wyndham mayor Peter Maynard said that without the temporary facilities, local children might have missed out on kindergarten places this year.
The kindergartens may be relocated elsewhere once permanent kindergartens are opened in Tarneit and Wyndham Vale.
