Paramedics attended more than 90 call-outs related to children trapped inside vehicles within Wyndham in a 12-month period.
New data from Ambulance Victoria shows there were 93 emergency calls for youngsters stuck inside vehicles in Wyndham between September 1, 2016, and August 31 last year.
There were 1696 such calls made across the state during the 12-month period, with the 3030 postcode (which covers Werribee, Werribee South, Point Cook, Derrimut and Quandong) topping the list with 43 individual call-outs.
The 3029 postcode – which takes in Hoppers Crossing, Tarneit and Truganina – placed third on the list with 41 call-outs.
The 3024 postcode (Wyndham Vale, Manor Lakes and Mount Cottrell) recorded five call-outs, with the 3027 postcode (Williams Landing, Laverton RAAF and Williams RAAF) recording four calls.
The state government has released the figures to coincide with the launch of a campaign aimed at making motorists aware that it is unsafe to leave children unattended in cars, especially in summer.
The campaign, which stars AFL personality Matthew Richardson, will include ads on television and radio.
In Victoria, it is against the law to leave children alone in a vehicle, with offenders facing fines of up to $3900 and jail for six months.
Wyndham council is joining Kidsafe Victoria for a campaign about the dangers of leaving children in hot cars, with warning signs to be placed at locations such as early childhood centres.
