The Melbourne Renegades visited five schools in Wyndham in effort to engage young cricket fans ahead of the upcoming cricket.
About 500 kids participated in the community clinics learning about the sport from Renegade players and local cricketers.
Melbourne Renegades head of brand, marketing and fan engagement Felicity George said the players loved engaging with young fans.
“The cricket season’s obviously fast approaching, which we’re very excited about and Wyndham has been highlighted as a really important area for the Renegades,” she said.
“We have a lot of fans that come to Wyndham and…we just wanted to make sure we were kind of reaching as many kids as possible and getting everyone excited for the upcoming [seasons].”
Ms George said the children were “really excited” to be participating in the clinics.
“One of the objections we has was to encourage more participation in cricket,” she said.
“Because of the amazing multicultural profile of the Wyndham area, a lot of the kids knew cricket from their parents and friends and were excited to play and get involved.
“Engaging them at a young age is really important for the club to get increased participation but also to make sure they know about games we have coming up.”
