From exhibitions to elephants, dinosaurs to dancefloors, there are plenty of free and affordable activities for families this school holidays.

At the Werribee Open Range Zoo, children under 16 can see attractions such as the herd of nine Asian elephants splashing about in their new home, for free.

Visitors can see the new arrivals from a new boardwalk and raised platforms which offer an up-close look at the herd’s daily activities.

“The Asian elephant herd have settled into their new home – bringing thousands more visitors to Werribee Open Range Zoo,” said Point Cook MP, Mathew Hilakari.

“That’s good for local jobs and local families.”

Also good for local families is free entry for under 16’s extending to all of Victoria’s zoos during the school holidays, as well as many of its museums and galleries too.

Kids under 16 can explore miniature worlds in Little Landscapes at Melbourne Museum, build and invent at Tinkertown at Scienceworks, explore films, TV, videogames and art at The Story of the Moving Image at ACMI and can get hands-on at the NGV’s Plans for the Planet: Olaf Breuning for Kids exhibition, all free of charge.

For those who enjoy the outdoors, they can cast a line at one of more than 70 lakes across Victoria which have been stocked with around 35,000 rainbow trout for the holidays – offering a fun and affordable way for kids to spend their free time.

“School holidays are the perfect time for families to get out and enjoy free activities – from exploring our amazing zoos to discovering our world-class museums, there’s something for everyone,” said Acting Premier Ben Carroll.
