Pupils at St Mary of the Cross Primary School will join thousands of Australians taking part in this year’s Clean Up Australia day.
The year five and six pupils, assisted by Werribee River keeper John Forrester, visited Paragon Park in Point Cook to clean it up and learn about the environment.
“We think it’s important to involve the children in Clean Up Australia Day as students need to learn that we are all responsible for our environment and that we need to respect our world,” St Mary of the Cross Primary School community liaison co-ordinator Sally Haisman said.
“By participating in Clean Up Australia Day students will learn that if we wish to enjoy our local parks, beaches and rivers we have to be responsible for picking up rubbish and putting our own rubbish in the bin.”
While Clean Up Australia Day was on March 6, St Mary’s of the Cross will hold its event Friday, March 11.
