A new online community hub is now available for locals living around the Western Treatment Plant to keep up to date with what’s happening at the site.

The Western Treatment Plant Online Community Hub has been designed to provide the community with regular updates on the plant’s latest projects, news and events.

Melbourne Water Western Treatment Plant and Sewerage transfer manager, Alanna Wright said the treatment plant is an unlikely treasure, plays a vital role in public health by receiving and treating about half of Melbourne’s sewage, but it also has historic, environmental and cultural significance.

“The site is a very special place. There is always something interesting happening and we want to share that with locals in a simple and interactive way,” Ms Wright said.

“Many people may not realise the plant not only provides low-cost sustainable sewage treatment, but it has a continually evolving resource recovery program coupled with a thriving ecosystem, internationally-recognised bird habitat and popular education program.”
