Kealba attack victim dies in hospital

A 28-year-old Hoppers Crossing man has died after being assaulted at a Kealba service station carpark at the weekend.

Homicide squad detectives believe Aaron Burnett was attacked in a truck parking area at the rear of the Caltex Service Station on Sunshine Avenue sometime in the early hours of Sunday morning, sustaining serious injuries.

It is believed Mr Burnett was then dropped off outside the front doors of Werribee Mercy Hospital’s emergency department about 5am.

Investigators understand that the man who dropped Mr Burnett off left after speaking with hospital staff.

Mr Burnett died at the hospital a short time later.

It is unclear why he was taken to Werribee Mercy Hospital, which is about 27 kilometres away from the service station, when the Sunshine Hospital was less than four kilometres away.

An investigation into the death continues.

Detectives, forensics officers and SES crews spent Monday examining the area behind the service station.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
