Werribee MP and Industrial Relations Minister Tim Pallas visited the Ison Road Overpass on Thursday, September 5 to unveil the state government’s building equitable futures strategy 2024-32.

The strategy sets out to increase the number of women in trade, non-trade and professional roles across construction’s civil, commercial and industrial sectors.

Around a third of the Ison Road project’s team are women, which the state government says reflects the strategy’s aim to improve equality and fairness in Australia’s most male-dominated industries.

The project supports the state government’s Building Equality Policy, which seeks to create training and employment opportunities in the construction industry for women.

The project team also recently hosted members of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC), not-for-profit organisation that has a mission to champion and empower women in the construction and related industries, for a site tour

Upon completion, the four-lane overpass will extend over the Melbourne-Geelong railway line toward the freeway and will include shared walking and cycling paths over the bridge and a cycling path underneath the bridge.

The state government says it will provide residents with better access to surrounding areas and minimise traffic in central Werribee, reducing congestion and improving journey reliability.

The Ison Road Overpass is jointly funded between the federal and state governments who have both contributed $57 million.
